My family had the misfortune of needing a criminal lawyer in Tokyo. A family member had run afoul of the law and was incarcerated for a period of time. As you can imagine, it was an extremely difficult time for the family because communication is non-existent in the early stages and the legal system is so very different from ours (Australia).
Fortune smiled on us when we chose Nakamura International Criminal Defense (NICD) as our legal representatives. Their lawyers, Ms Moe Miyamoto and Mr Hideo Kashimoto were assigned to the case with immediate effect. They were able to begin the process of communication which was a massive relief to all concerned. They were able to convince the Judge to allow for us to visit our family member which, again, was a huge boost to the whole family in being able to see and hear how he was.
The Japanese System is very different, as I mentioned, but to help us understand, Hideo was able to draw a diagram which explained the steps in the process and the timing of each event.
